Beyond the Scrubs: Spotlight on Jimmelle - Brave, Beautiful, and Bold in Memphis, TN

At Hadonica’s Photography, our Beyond the Scrubs campaign is about more than photos—it’s about honoring the powerful women behind the uniforms. Healthcare professionals give so much of themselves every day, and our mission is to show them the beauty, strength, and confidence that exists beyond their scrubs.

Today, we’re spotlighting one of our incredible Memphis clients, Jimmelle, whose story is the perfect example of resilience and self-love.

One Word to Describe Herself: Brave

When asked to choose one word that best describes her, Jimmelle chose Brave.

“I face all life challenges and I never run from situations that are set up to make me fail.”

That courage is what drives her—both in her personal life as a mother of three and in her career in healthcare.

Who She Is Beyond the Scrubs

As an individual, she describes herself as grounded, evolving, independent, and honest. Parenthood shifted her perspective and gave her an even deeper drive to lead by example.

“I always have smaller people watching me. I want to be someone they look up to.”

Outside of scrubs, she is family-oriented—spending most of her time with her children, siblings, and parents. While she pours so much into others, she joined our photoshoot to take time for herself and see a side of her she rarely gets to focus on: beautiful, glamorous, and radiant.

Why Healthcare?

Her passion for healthcare started in high school. After working her way from CNA to Phlebotomist/EKG Tech to Registered Respiratory Therapist, she is now on the cusp of reaching her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) this December.

Her “why” is rooted in advocacy, especially for the Black and Brown community.

“I’m hoping there will be a lot more of us that care enough to see about not just the people that look like you but also the people that look different.”

Obstacles and Overcoming

Healthcare isn’t without challenges. She has faced situations where her recommendations were dismissed, only to be validated later, and moments where recognition wasn’t given to the team as a whole.

But through it all, she’s learned an important truth:

“No one knows everything. There’s always room for improvement and learning.”

Her resilience and dedication keep her moving forward, spreading the goodness of her work wherever she goes.

Her Photoshoot Experience

When asked what she hoped to get out of her Beyond the Scrubs portrait experience in Memphis, she said:

“I want to see myself in a way that I didn’t know existed. I only want to think of me during this time.”

She envisioned herself photographed as confident, strong-willed, beautiful, and glamorous—a side of her that rarely gets to shine. And that’s exactly what Beyond the Scrubs is all about: capturing the layers of identity that healthcare workers carry beyond their uniforms.

Final Reflections

What does she currently love about herself?

“Everything—from my personality to my looks.”

And that is what radiates in her portraits: courage, compassion, and undeniable beauty.
